Everyone wants to deal with Big Data and the new hype topic is on every CIO’s mind. There are currently many different definitions available to cover as many big data topics as possible. In many cases it is synonymous with open-source technologies like Hadoop and the ‘NoSQL‘ class of databases.
I see Big Data as the natural next step of Computational Statistics. It deals with all topics for collecting, loading, storing, analysing and presenting data. A well established tool for all these steps is the open source programming language and software environment R (www.r-project.org, #rstats). It is designed for statistical computing and visualisation. Today, R is quickly becoming the new standard for statistics and BI, and version number 3.0.0 is already announced for summer 2013. The R statistical software is the fastest growing analytics platform in the world, and is established in both academia and companies for robustness, reliability and accuracy.
You are interested to learn more about R and how to use it with Big Data?
comSysto GmbH offers a one day “Big Data Analyses with R” training on April 15, 2013 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. (location: comSysto GmbH, Lindwurmstraße 97, 80337 München). You will learn how to connect R to SQL and NoSQL databases and how to do R based analyses on Hadoop. Furthermore, we will talk about use cases which really need complex and time consuming algorithms and big data repositories. The course costs 400 Euros and includes handouts, cloud based analyses environment, lunch and drinks. All students and members from Universities in Munich will get 25% discount. For registration please contact email@example.com.
The day after (April 16, 2013) we give a half day “Big Data Analyses with R” training at the NoSQL Roadshow Munich. The topics are similar to the one day training, but with much less exercises. If you are interested in this training do not miss to register for the conference and use our 30% discount voucher / code: COMSYSTO30
We already plan several more R trainings for the second half of 2013 and pre-registration is already open:
- Two day R beginners training (October 2013)
- One day R Data Handling and Graphics (plyr, ggplot, shiny, …) (November 2013)
- One day R Big Data (November 2013)
